The East Frisian community of Uplengen is illuminated by traditional bell luminaires. The bell luminaire systems 032 and 033 were used in the expansion of the cross-town link and in a new residential area. The luminaires are optimized for use with high-pressure discharge lamps.

Until now, 125W HQL mercury vapor lamps were used. Substituting CPO-T illuminants for the outdated HQL lamps initially resulted in higher investment costs. However, the use of 45W and 60W lamps enabled savings of €360 per light spot at the same luminous efficiency. This illustrates that pleasing optics and energy-efficient street lighting don't contradict one another.
